Easy Any Flavor Hash Browns

Easy Any Flavor Hash Browns

Utensils needed:

* Oven safe pan
Flipper
Cutting board/sharp knife

( * =  use a large metal non-stick lasagna pan--they're about $12 at your local grocery store or supply store--but you can use anything you want. Just be sure to check on them often the first time you try this recipe to be sure they do not burn.)

Ingredients needed:

Depending on the size of portion you want of course, but I find it easier to make one batch depending on the size of your pan. In my case:

ORIGINAL (BASE FLAVORING FOR ALL VARIATIONS):

3-4 Large potatoes (6-7 if they're small, feel free to use any brand or type of potato you wish)
2-4 tablespoons of oil (I used extra virgin olive oil, you could use whatever you would like--but I seriously suggest against motor oil... o.0)

FLAVORING:
(feel free to alter to your tastes and try new things after your first batch, but these are a few that I have tried that have been quite successful:)

SPICY Taters:

2 teaspoons of sea salt
2 teaspoons of pepper
1 teaspoon of dried red pepper flakes
4 dashes of cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons of Italian seasonings

SALT & VINEGAR Taters:

4 teaspoons of sea salt
6-9 table spoons of vinegar (could be malt or white, up to you)

ONION & GARLIC Taters:

1/4 - 1/2 a cup of chopped onion
1 tablespoon of diced or dehydrated garlic
add an additional tablespoon of oil

  • Set your oven to high broil, move the rack down two slots below the center position.
  • Sprinkle desired DRY ingredients onto the bottom of the pan
  • Chop your potatoes into small cubes (about one centimeter) and lay in the pan
  • Drizzle oil and any other LIQUID ingredients desired on top of potato cubes
  • Stir until all cubes are covered
  • Place in oven for 15 minutes, stir.
  • Stir again after an additional 15 minutes, repeat as necessary until you have your desired level of crispiness.

BE SURE to WATCH your taters. It bites when you forget about them and they are dark on one side and thaw on the other--this is the only downside to using broil, but it creates simply the best homemade hash browns I have ever made. Enjoy!

FOR NON-DAIRY: There is no dairy in this recipe. ^.^
